World Athletics Championship: Aziz Makes The finals, But

...Finishes Last
With no Canadian in the finals of the 100m,the Americans improved and set a new fastest time 9.82 this year.It was a race that had three false starts and one African AZIZ ZAKARI(GHA).

MAURICE GREENE(USA) lead a United States clean sweep in the men's 100m final,but sustained an injury in the last stages of the race.TIM MONTGOMERY was second in 9.85,ahead of BENARD WILLIAMS also of the United States in 9.94 a personel best.

Olympic Silver medallist ATO BOLDON(TRI)having had the third false start finished fourth 9.98.DWAIN CHAMBERS(GBR),bronze medallist last two years in Seville,was the final athlete under the ten seconds running a season's best of 9.99,in fitfh. KIM COLLINS(SKN) finished sixth in 10.07 ahead of 1998 junior champion CHRISTIAN MELCOLM(GBR) in a personal best of 10.11 and Olympic finalist AZIZ ZAKARI(GHA) in 10.24.

For a fleeting moment yesterday, it looked as if Donovan Bailey might have earned another chance to show them he deserved at least their respect. With many cynics doubting he could make it through the first round, because of his knee problems, Bailey’s qualification from the quarter finals was little short of amazing.
