One of the key members of the committee tasked to search for a new coach for Ghana, Kojo Addae Mensah, has stated that Otto Addo impressed the committee to edge out other candidates who applied for the role.
In an interview with Luv FM, Kojo Addae Mensah asserted that he was in awe of how Otto Addo demonstrated his sophistication to the committee and stood out among the over 100 managers who applied for the job.
"Yes indeed there were over a hundred applications but Otto Addo really impressed me. I must admit that he proved to me that he knew what he was about, he knew the team, and he told us what he would have done differently with the benefit of hindsight," he said.
He underlined that the former Borussia Dortmund man distinguished himself from the other coaches due to his familiarity with the players, as well as his understanding of the Ghana Football Association's 'Ghana Football DNA' ideology.
"He knows the players, he knows their psyche, the GFA has written their DNA and he knows about it. He really impressed us, I must confess. But he was not the only one who impressed, there were quite a number of people who were also quite impressive but bottom line Otto was very impressive."
Otto Addo, who is in for his second stint as Black Stars coach, was announced on Friday, March 15, 2024. He replaces Chris Hughton who was axed after Ghana's group-stage exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
He will be assisted by Moroccan-German football coach Joseph Laumann, who will serve as first deputy and former Black Stars John Paintsil as the third in command while former Black Stars goalkeeper Fatau Dauda assume the goalkeeper's trainer role.
The Otto Addo-led technical team will take on Nigeria on March 22 before facing the Cranes of Uganda on March 26 in Morocco as their first assignment.
