The newly appointed Vice-President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Mr George Afriyie has stated that, the association has targeted to position Ghana football on top of the world.
The Black Stars Management Committee chairman, who was named as the Vice President of the Association for a four year term, told the GNA Sports that ‘it is the collective responsibility of the association to develop Ghana football. We want to put our football on top of Africa and the world, as part of our vision.”
‘‘I have different ideas, which am bringing on board to develop the discipline. We have set targets we want to achieve. It cuts across juvenile football to women football,” adding that, the position bestowed on him comes with a huge responsibility, amidst the negative comments made against the Association.
"I see myself now as having a very big responsibility and a big load on my shoulders. The GFA now is not in the mood for enjoyment. There are lots of criticisms and huge expectations and the position or the mandate given me does not come with enjoyment’’. He said.
The 45 year old added that, his appointment came as a surprise to him, ‘‘I was not really expecting this appointment. As a member of the executive committee I knew definitely the President was going to select from the committee and having served on the committee for some time now, there was a possibility that I could be chosen, but until the announcement came, I didn’t think that I could be the one.’’.
Afriyie has vast experience in football administration in Ghana after serving in various national teams and several clubs in the country including Swedru All Blacks, Accra Great Olympics and Liberty Professionals.
