‘We failed to keep basic principles’

Coach David Duncan Coach David Duncan

Coach David Duncan says his side lost the plot in keeping to basic principles in their latest defeat on match day 19 of the FCPPL.

Asante Kotoko scored first through an Ahmed Toure header but sat back for Liberty Professionals to bounce back and score three goals against them at the Carl Reindorf Park on Sunday.

Latif Blessing equalized after a basic error between goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi and two of his defenders.

Kennedy Ashia gave Liberty a 2-1 lead from a direct free-kick before captain Alfred Nelson put the icing on a sweet and well deserved victory with his injury time goal.

“We could have won this game if we had been a little more disciplined and kept to some of the basic principle of the game,” Duncan said after the match.

“I can’t let a goal away like that after taking a lead against a side that has this place as a fortress. Definitely, they would bounce back in confidence and anything at all could happen there after and that is exactly what happened.

The defending champions have so far lost three of four games in the second round of the FCPPL and now tie with rivals Accra Hearts of Oak on 25 points.

Kotoko will next host Bechem United at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on June 28.
