We are not aware of Mayweather's Historic Visit-GBA

Mayweather Mayweather

Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Naa Darkuah Dodoo has insisted that organizers of the Mayweather’s visit to Ghana have not officially informed them about the historic event.

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, the PRO said from Upscale Entertainment we do not have any official notice but because BabyJet Promotions is organizing a bout on that day, they have officially informed us. ‘’Upscale Entertainment has not given us any official notification of their event but because Babyjet Promotion is promoting a bout, they have informed us.’’

She was however quick to add that, maybe the legend boxer is not purposely coming to Ghana for boxing hence may not necessarily have to inform the authority officially. She said, if it was not the press conference held to announce his coming, she would not have known Upscale Entertainment. Media group EIB Network signed a media partnership deal with Upscale Entertainment, organizers of the Mayweather in Ghana event. The decorated boxer jets into Ghana on June 15 with an 18-man contingent.

This is the second time in three years that the American boxer is coming to Africa. In 2014, he visited South Africa. While in Ghana, he is expected to pay courtesy calls on the President as well as the overlord of the Asante Kingdom Otumfuor Osei Tutu. He is also expected to attend a fundraising event as well as a boxing bout at the Bukom Boxing Square.

Meanwhile, Sports Editor for Rainbow Radio, Nana Prempeh says Upscale Entertainment is not obliged to inform the GBA but it will be out of courtesy for them to do that.

He said it was not too late for GBA to engage with the organizers to draw up a programme together for the legend boxer. The visit he noted will be extremely beneficial to Ghana.
