Athletic Bilbao striker Inaki Williams has expressed the team's ambition to qualify for European competition next season following their gritty 2-0 victory over Leganes on Thursday night at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque.
Williams netted Bilbao’s second goal in the 75th minute, capitalizing on a pinpoint cross from Andoni Gorosabel.
His composed finish sealed the win, adding to his growing influence on the team's attack.
Before the Leganes match, Williams had already made headlines with a hat-trick of assists in Bilbao’s triumph over Las Palmas.
That performance made him the first La Liga player to register three assists in a single game since 2005.
Reflecting on his first goal of the season and Bilbao's current fifth-place standing, Williams highlighted the club's determination to secure a spot in European competition.
“Incredible. This team doesn’t have a ceiling. We don’t have to look at our rivals, we are ambitious because we want to be in Europe," he told the club's media.
"I think the team has played a great game; maybe not lucid at times we’ve played two games away from home in a row. I think we are in good shape for everything that is to come.
“He (Andoni Gorosabel) gave me an incredible ball and I just had to put my foot right and push it,” he added.
Williams will look to extend his scoring streak when Bilbao host Celta Vigo on Sunday, September 22, at San Mames.
