Thomas Partey was instrumental for Arsenal in their 5-0 thumping of Chelsea in the Premier League on Tuesday, October 23, 2024.
In his second start for the club since August 2023, Thomas Partey showed that he has returned to full fitness, with an influential performance against Chelsea.
The 30-year-old midfielder was a calming presence in the Arsenal midfield alongside skipper, Martin Odegaard, and Declan Rice.
The midfield trio showed great understanding, with Partey at the base, while Odegaard and Declan Rice played more advanced roles.
The Ghanaian midfielder had 56 touches, 86% pass accuracy, created two chances, produced nine final third passes, and won 100% of his tackles.
In the defensive half, Partey had two clearances, three interceptions and four recoveries to help Arsenal keep a clean sheet while inflicting a humiliating defeat on Chelsea.
His performance earned him praise from Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta, who used his post-game presser to highlight the importance of the Ghanaian midfielder.
“We thought it was a really good game for Thomas [Partey] to come back, he looks like he is in rhythm, he trained well the last few days. The way that they set up, the players that they have and the way they attack especially, we believe it was the right call to make.
“He stepped up and had a great performance and was important for the team,” Mikel Arteta said in his post-match interview, as quoted on the website of Arsenal.
With the midfielder showing signs of a return to his best, Mikel Arteta and Arsenal fans will be counting on him when they take on Tottenham in a North London derby on Sunday, April 28, 2024.
