Vanguard Assurance wins Accra Polo Championship

Accra, Dec, 22, GNA - Vanguard Assurance defeated Trafigura 7-5 to win the 2008 Accra International Open Polo Championship played at the Accra Polo Grounds on Sunday.

Damain Duncan opened the scores for Trafigura a minute inside the First Chukka when his long range shot went straight into the net. Duncan made it two a minute later but Sbu Duma pulled a goal for Vanguard at the stroke of the First Chukka.

Vanguard changed their pattern of play and scored two more goals through Daniel Awuah Darko and Fabien Belanterio in the Second Chukka. David Awuah Darko and Duma went ahead to score two goals more goals each for Vanguard before Jamil Ibrahim also scored two goals for Trafigura in the last Chukka. Mr Kwakye Dopoah-Dei, Captain of the Accra Polo Club was assisted by Mr Kwasi Agyeman, Chairman of the Board of Trustees to present the trophy to the winners.
