The Ghana captain picked up a thigh injury was replaced by Lu Wen Jun on 63 minutes.

Besart Berisha netted a penalty with 17 minutes remaining as the Australian side kicked off their campaign with a win.

AFC Champions League debutant Jai Ingham had given Melbourne the lead against the run of the play after 31 minutes only for Wu Lei to equalise for Sven Goran Eriksson’s Shanghai at the start of the second half.
