Unity is the only secret for Black Stars to win AFCON - Sola Ayew

Abedi Ayew Pele's younger brother Sola Ayew has revealed that unless they are united the Black Stars should forget about ending their over 30-year-long trophy drought.

Since winning the 1982 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Trophy, Ghana has been without a major trophy. The Black Stars have come close three times but have failed to get their hands on the trophy on every occasion.

In 1992 and 2015, Ghana lost via penalty shootouts to Ivory Coast at the AFCON finals and also lost to Egypt in the 2010 edition.

Doing these tournaments there have been allegations of player disunity costing Ghana in the long run, most especially that of 1992.

Speaking in an interview with Light FM, Sola Ayew who is also the uncle to current Black Stars players Andre and Jordan Ayew says only fighting for the trophy on a united front will lead to success.

He told Light Sports, “Unity is the only secret for Ghana Black Stars to win the African Cup of Nations”

“Per my experience in football, one thing that is significant in a team’s good performance is togetherness so if it’s exempted, the national team cannot win,” he added.

Black Stars captain Andre Ayew will surely take note of these statement from his uncle.
