Umpires urged to be Professional

Emmanuel Abban, a senior sports coach at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has urged netball umpires to be courageous and professional when officiating.

Speaking to the 22 participants at the closing ceremony of a four-day National Umpires Course organized by the Netball Federation of Ghana (NFG) in partnership with the Ghana Education Service (GES), Abban called on umpires to give their best for players and spectators to enjoy the sport.

According to him, umpires can only perform well when they practice regularly, constantly revise the rules of the discipline, accept criticism and correct their mistakes.

The course prefects for the occasion, Gladys Tsotsoo Asamoah and Godwin Dorgbetor suggested for more time to be allocated for future courses to ensure that participants imbibe all the techniques in umpiring.

They called on the P.E Directorate at the GES and the NFG to strive to appoint only umpires who have license to officiate netball matches at all sports festivals.
