U-17 Female World Cup: Black Maidens step up preparations

Ahead of the 2018 under 17 female world cup in Uruguay, Ghana’s Black Maidens continue their preparations with a doubleheader low profile friendly at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

Coach Evans Adotey invited 36 players for camping six weeks ago to step up preparations ahead of the world cup and with a few weeks to the start tournament, all 36 players have been participating actively in camp. A final list of 21 players is expected to be released by the coach before the start of the tournament.

The Maidens will engage Angel Soccer Academy, an under 14 boys side, at 4 pm today. They lost against the same side last week by 2 goals to 1.

They will be at it again on Saturday morning when they host Royal Academy at 8 am.

Coach Evans Adotey and his charges are in Group A together with host country Uruguay, New Zealand and debutants Finland.

The Black Maidens will be making their 6th consecutive appearance at the competition which will be held from November 13- December 1, 2018.

Ghana’s junior female national team made it to this year’s tournament with a record 26 goals scored in the qualifying games having thumped Djibouti (19-0 aggregate) and Gambia (7-1).

Young striker and skipper of the side Mukarama Abdulai emerged as top scorer of the qualifying matches with 12 goals.

On 13 November in Montevideo, host nation Uruguay will take on Ghana in the opening game with New Zealand clashing with tournament debutants Finland in the same stadium.

Defending champions Korea DPR, meanwhile, will open up against Germany in Colonia.
