U-17 AFCON: Ghana face Gabon today

Ghana’s U-17 team, the Black Starlets are in action today against Gabon at the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in their second group game.

The Black Starlets win against the “Les Pantheres” will ensure a safe passage to the FIFA U17 World Cup in India later this year.

The Black Starlets started the tournament superbly by thumping Cameroon 4-0 in the opening fixture to take a commanding lead in Group A.

Gabon had earlier succumbed to a 5-1 defeat to Guinea in the tournament opener.

Sunday’s win marked Ghana’s return to the championship after a four-year absence.

Meanwhile Starlet Rashid Alhassan is suffering from Malaria and he is likely to miss today’s game and should there be any replacement Bismark Terry Owusu will take his place according to reports.

Probable Starting Line-up: Danlad Ibrahim- Najeeb Yakubu, Bismark Terry Owusu , Faisal Osman, Abdul Razak Yusif- Mohammed Iddris, Emmanuel Toku, Gabriel Leveh, Edmund Arko-Mensah- Eric Ayiah (Capt), Ibrahim Sulley.

The two-time world champions have failed to qualify to the World Cup since 2007.
