Tukson, Betty for International Peugeot Golf

Tema, July 3, GNA - Joseph Sandy Tukson of the Obuasi Golf Club and Betty Richards of the Royal Golf Club of Kumasi, qualified to represent Ghana in the International Peugeot Golf Championship scheduled for France in August this year.

Turkson returned a net score of 68, while Betty had 71 net to win the Men's and the Ladies finals respectively of the Peugeot Challenge Golf Championship played at the Tema Country Golf Course on Sunday. Group Captain Gyimah Kwakye came second with a net of 69, while E. Osabutey placed third with 70 net.

Ama Morgan placed second in the Ladies event with 72 net, winning on count-back against Helena Konsole.

Paul Adu Gyamfi won the seniors category with 72 net, Atta Opoku came second with 74 net, while Sam Odame took the third position with 93 gross.

The one-day 18-Hole Stable-ford competition was opened to amateur golfers throughout the country and jointly sponsored by Prestige Motor Company Limited and Lufthansa Airlines. Papa Owusu Ankomah, Minister for Education, Science and Sports said the ministry would do everything possible to ensure that the game of golf was developed.

He said government would continue to support all private sector institutions that go into the sponsorship of golf. Papa Ankomah therefore, entreated the private sector to help the government in the sports development.

He was assisted by Mr Nick Adi Dako, Managing Direictor of Prestige Motor Company Limited and Mr Felix Owusu-Adjapong, President of Tema Country Golf Club and Majority Leader in Parliament and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, to present prizes to the winners.
