By Sammy Heywood Okine

*It is now very certain that despite the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) annual Cup match not coming off as scheduled because Kumasi Asante demanded an astronomical appearance fee, the much talked about awards dinner show is coming off and would be graced by some of the top Black Stars players.*

After their fantastic performance at the FIFA World Cup in South Africa, where they reached the quarter final, the SWAG has decided to honour the team as team of the year, while Stephen Appiah would be receiving an award for his leadership, dedication and valour.

GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi will he honoured as the Chairman of the year, and three top stars vie for the Footballer of the year prize.

They are Andre Dede Ayew, Asamoah Gyan and Richard Kingson.

With Dede Ayew going for a special award for his constituency since 2008 and Prince Kevin Boateng for his loyalty and patriotism, Asamoah Gyan and Kingson as well as boxing champion Joseph Agbeko will fight for the Top Sports Personality of the year.

A survey among sports fans proved that Andre Dede Ayew is in contention for the Best Footballer and Asamoah Gyan topping for the Sports Personality of the year.

Others who will grace the night are Sulley Muntari and new Black Stars skipper John Mensah.

The 36th SWAG awards is being sponsored by MTN and supported by rlg, Promasidor, Safina Mineral Water, TT Brothers, Stanbic Bank, Solmet Gh Ltd, ATL, Muti TV, Goldfields Gh Ltd and Healthy Life. *
