These are the players who have shown and proven they possess the right talent and mentality to hit the limelight soon.
Daniel Owusu
Team: Hamburg SV
Position: Full-back
Age: 18
Boisterous and fearless at the back. Owusu is blessed with pace and the heart of a lion. His ability to read the game and make switches when alternating roles is just awesome and is one of the players liken to Brazilian Dani Alves. Owusu has established himself at Hamburg and is an automatic starter in his side’s 3-4-3 system.
Patric Pfeiffer
Team: Hamburg SV
Position: Center Back
Age: 18
Doesn’t sound Ghanaian does it? The name is German. But Pfeiffer is a Ghanaian. He commands the back at Hamburg and his mere figure and commanding presence at the back makes him standard for a modern day center back. Pfeiffer is one of the few players regarded with the quality to break into the Hamburg SV first team soon.
Charles Jesaja
Team: VFL Wolfsburg
Position: Forward
Age: 18
Son of former Ghana captain and Wolfsburg legend C. K Akonnor. Jesaja is fantastic on the ball and has an incredible left foot. Just like his father Jesaja has a great foot for scoring free kick and he’s doing that at Wolfsburg. He’s undecided about his international future he has presented Germany at youth level.
John Yeboah
Team: VFL Wolfsburg
Position: Winger
Age: 17
Most Ghanaians first had glimpses of the winger at the U17 World Cup in India last year. Yeboah is quick and pacey and causes a lot of problems for defenders. Unknown whether he will play for Ghana.
Aaron Opoku
Team: Hamburg
Position: Offensive midfielder
Age: 18
Hamburg’s U19 captain and leading scorer. The attacking midfielder is blessed with enormous qualities. He’s the steamroller for the Hamburg squad from the middle.
Alexander Okyere
Team: Eintracht Frankfurt
Position: Right-back
Age: 18
Talented and workaholic. The youngster is defining his style at Frankfurt. Born in Kumasi, Ghana, the young defender could come good for Ghana in the future.
Gabriel Kyeremateng
Team: Borussia Dortmund
Position: Forward
Age: 18
Kyeremateng is focused on playing for Ghana despite playing for Germany at various youth levels. He has excelled at Dortmund and played against many big teams in the UEFA Youth League including Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Tottenham Hotspur and many other clubs. He has the knack for scoring important goals.
Richmond Tachie
Team: VFL Wolfsburg
Position: Center forward
Age: 18
True goal-scoring machine. Tachie is the top scorer at Wolfsburg U19 with over 14 goals. In front of goal he has the coolest of heads and has the finishing touch of Mauro Icardi.
Jordan Amissah
Team: Borussia Dortmund
Age: 16
Position: Goalkeeper
Goalkeepers rarely emerge on the European scene but one youngster learning his trade in the best way is Jordan Amissah and the lanky glovesboy is intimidating in between the sticks with his brilliant agility and vision. But modern day keepers are not only required for their duty to save situations when their defences are breached but most importantly to involvement in the game and start of play. Amissah is loved at Dortmund for this quality and is tipped to excel. He hails from Berekum in the Brong Ahafo region.
Joselpho Barnes
Team: Schalke 04 U17
Position: Right-winger
Age: 16
The B-Junioren-Bundes’ own Cristiano Ronaldo. At 16, the Barnes is lighteningly quick and electric on the ball. He’s bold and fearlessly take on defenders. Though not one of the most talented players you can find around he’s determined to follow in the footsteps of his father Sebastian Ebo Barnes who earned his name in Ghana with the junior teams.
