Thompson wins Chess Classics competition

Edward Thompson shrugged off challenge from Bernard Anhwere of KNUST Chess Club to emerge winner of the inaugural Kumasi Chess Classics held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The event organized by the Ghana Chess Association (GCA), with sponsorship from the President of the Association Captain George Arko- Dadzie was aimed at unearthing talents and also to popularize the discipline in the Region.

The 7-round Swiss event was won by Thompson who went unbeaten with 7 points ahead of new Kumasi sensation, Anhwere.

Stephen Ofori-Poku won the discovery of the tournament as he managed to get four points ahead of notable Kumasi -based players Kwame Sekyere, Marc Gardesey and Kwabena Adu-Poku.
