Father of Atletico Madrid star Thomas Partey has confirmed that his son has a received a transfer proposal from English Premier League side Arsenal.

Partey is the subject of interest from some of Europe’s big clubs with Arsenal believed to be in the driving seat after making contact with his agents.

Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta has been said to be a big fan of the Ghanaian midfielder and is determined to add him to his squad with Lucas Torreira rumoured to be favouring a move back to Italy.

Atletico, meanwhile are reported to have offered a new lucrative deal to Partey in a bid to fend off interest from Arsenal and other clubs.

In an interview with Richmond Entsie on Adeiso-based Tru FM, Jacob Partey disclosed that he has held discussions with his son over Arsenal’s interest.

He revealed his son is open to a move to England but a potential deal depends largely on Atletico Madrid.

Jacob Partey, however, said he will be glad should his son move to the London-based club.

“I called my son after hearing the rumours and he told me that the rumours are true. He told me they are holding talks between him and Arsenal. It all depends on the offer Atletico are demanding. If he goes to Arsenal fine, they have a lot supporters in Ghana. I will be happy if he decides to move to Arsenal. What they are discussing now is how Atletico will release him”, he said.

Partey joined Atletico in 2013 and after a few loan stints has now established himself as key figure in Diego Simeone’s side.

Partey is said to have close ties with his father who had to sell his property to fund his move to Europe. His words could prove decisive in any decision by the midfielder.
