The inaugural edition of the Ghana Football Awards was on Sunday, July 9, 2018, held at the plush Mariot Hotel in Accra.

The award scheme that seeks to recognize the exploits of Ghanaian footballers came off with Atletico Madrid and Black Stars midfielder, Thomas Partey walking home with the biggest award of the night.

The midfielder saw off competition from Swansea forward Jordan Ayew, Richard Ofori of Maritzburg United and Aston Villa's Albert Adomah to win the Best Player Award.

The 25-year-old midfielder who featured 52 times for Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid was also adjudged best foreign-based player. He was a key member of the Atletico Madrid team that won the Europa League and finished second in the Spanish La Liga.
