Thomas Abbey delighted after winning 2017 SWAG award

Former Hearts of Oak captain Thomas Abbey has sent a heartfelt message to his fans after winning the 2017 SWAG Home-Based Player of the Year.

On Friday night at the International Conference Center, Abbey beat off competition from Amos Frimpong and Stephen Sarfo.

The year under review, Abbey scored 15 goals in all competition and he helped the local Black Stars team to win the WAFU Tournament on home soil

After winning the award, Abbey penned a heartwarming message to his former club as well as his fans who helped throughout his stay in the Ghana Premier League.

“My journey with Hearts of Oak started in 2012. Sadly, my final game was the MTN FA CUP Final where we lost to Kotoko.”

“I scored on the day but I would trade my personal goal for the trophy. Last season, I had my best performance with the club after almost six years of service. I served Hearts with professionalism, honesty, passion, and 100% dedication.

“Thank you so much to every fan who has supported my work for the last six years, to all the players – past and present – and staff of the club; to all the sports writers and journalists who keep promoting the league; to all my family and friends from Prampram to Winneba and across the length of Ghana.”

“Thank you. Thank you for the amazing support. My 2017 SWAG (local) Footballer of the Year goes to all of you. I dedicate it to all my family, friends, fans, coaches, and playing mates. Thank you.

Abbey has since signed for Egyptian side Ismaily FC
