'The standard has fallen' - Nyantakyi slams sports journalists

GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi

The head of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi has released a fresh acidic venom on Ghanaian sports journalists questioning how they have thrown the standard of the profession into the mud.

Speaking at a three-day brainstorming summit in Cape Coast on Wednesday, November 29, the President of the Ghana Football Association craftily lashed out at the media:

"The standards of journalism we knew when growing up which was clearly espoused by people like Kwabena Yeboah, Joe Aggrey, Carl Tuffour, Felix Abayatey...

"It is regrettable that they did not hand over the standards beyond their generation," Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi stated unequivocally.

Clearly speaking, the above unfortunate comments from Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi is an indictment on the above-mentioned names because it goes to suggest that they have failed to pass on the knowledge baton they inherited onto the current generation.

What is more, Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi made those statements in the presence of the President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana [SWAG] - Mr. Kwabena Yeboah.

He [Mr. Nyantakyi] further reiterated that the GFA would like to bond well with the Sports Writers Association of Ghana moving forward whilst assisting the SWAG to organizing seminars for the media.

"We want to build a strong relationship with SWAG.

"We want to help SWAG to understand what we do better. They already know, but we want to provide more information.

"We want to work with SWAG to organize seminars for the media so that the media can also interrogate our activities further."

Despite scolding the media, Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi however, believes that the media and the GFA are partners and must work together to achieve a common objective.

"We believe that both the media and the GFA are partners with a common objective of developing the game.

One would have expected the man tagged with 'sika die' to use the platform to explain how the Ghana Football Association intends to collaborate with the media in developing the game [football] right from the grassroot to the professional level instead of 'farting into the air' vitriolically.

This is because such stirring comments only goes to provoke a range of like responses.

In fact, Kwesi Nyantakyi is fond of releasing pernicious attacks on persons that share divergent opinions from his and it's quite legendary the way he labels such people at the least opportunity.

For instance, he once described Hon. Nii Lante Vanderpuye who was then the Minister of Youth and Sports as a 'serial caller.'

Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi is also on record to have chided the media as a group of 'thoughtless pranks' who speaks without first thinking.

The President of the Ghana Football Association also flexed his muscles about the number of cases he has filed against media practitioners and even waxed lyrically that he has a lot more to file.

"For me as a person you know I have court cases with people and that is the reason for it.

"I don't regret for going to court and I can assure you I have more cases to file just to clear my name, I am not interested in any compensation from anybody."
