Sene District cries for District Director of Education

Kwame Danso (B/A), Jan 8, GNA - Sene District in Brong-Ahafo has been without a Director of Education for the past three years leading to dismal standards in schools.

Concerned citizens of the area have expressed their disgust and dissatisfaction with the situation, which they said, had created problems for education in the district.

In a statement Mr. Francis Adomah, Sene District Accountant of the Ghana Health Service, called on the government to review the situation to save the "sinking " standard of education in the district. "Whatever the problem is we are urging the authorities concerned to expedite action to get a substantive Director of Education for the district."

Mr Adomah said there had not been any official explanation for the absence of a substantive Director.

As a result, he added, the accountant had to send all documents from Kwame Danso to the District Director at Atebubu, a distance of about 38 kilometres, for approval.

''We think this situation is causing grave financial loss to the state as far as fuel cost and other resources wasted are concerned.'' He cited a recent incident when somebody fraudulently introduced himself as the New District Director for Sene and duped the accountant, the GPRTU chairman and others of millions of cedis.

When contacted on telephone about the situation, Mrs. Akua Debrah, Regional Director of Education, said the Regional Directorate was in the process of getting a Director to the district.

''We interviewed some qualified persons just before Christmas and hopefully by the end of the first-quarter of the year a new Director will be in office.''
