The National women zonal championship “zone3”

The National women zonal championship “zone3” has entered match day three with Ghatel Ladies Central region leading group A with 4 points after two matches. The championship brought together 7 clubs from 3 regions namely Greater Accra, Central Region and Volta Region. Likpe ladies from Volta region failed to turn up for the competition which brought participating clubs to 7 instead of the original 8. The championship which began on Monday at two venues: the Ho sports stadium and the 66 Artillery Park saw competing teams divided into two groups to fight for a premiership berth. The top two teams from each group gains premiership status. Reacting to the level of play, the Technical Director of the GFA Coach Oti Akentey praised the quality and standard of play exhibited by the various teams. “I have been to two centers so far; the Koforidua center and it hasn’t been bad at all. Am now here and witnessed the two matches, am so happy with what I’ve seen, we only pray these continues”. He further applauds the host region Volta for the numerous young talents embedded in their squad and disclosed they never expected to unearth any young talents in the region but the case was different. He further called on the participating clubs not to rest on their past glory but be the good ambassadors of the game. The chairperson of women league board Ms Leanier A .O Addy confirmed that each of the 3 zone will provide four (4) teams making up 12 to partake in the 2012/2013 league. She started in the past the women league was in a form of zonal games but the FA wants clubs to be serious and has moved away from where club owners use their emotions to a stage where they will be realistic, use rules and regulations and take responsibility for their clubs. She further stated it is possible the FA will take care of the officiating fees and the administrative cost and is the desire of the FA to have a running National League, knock out competitions, and champions of champions so that the women will not be rusty. She asked the club owners to take more responsibilities and full advantage of this new reform to upgrade their knowledge in football administration.
