Ghana's Under-20 head coach Sellas Tetteh has revealed that he felt disrespected after being bye-passed for the national team coaching job five months.
The former Liberty Professionals trainer had served as assistant coach with the Black Stars to seveal expatriate coaches and felt embarrased after failing to land the substantive job with Claude Le Roy's departure in May last year.
Tetteh was re-assigned to the Black Satellites but he took a caretaker role of the national team in four 2010 Nations Cup/World Cup first round qualifying matches and lost once.
"I felt disrepected when I was moved from the Black Stars to the U20s, thinking that it was an opportunity to prove that local coaches can live up to the same standards as foreign coaches,'' Tetteh told the AllSports newspaper.
"After assisting four other coaches inclduing Claude Le Roy and Ratomir Dujkovic, I thought I was good enough to be the main coach.
"I felt down because they could not explain why they did not give me the job."
But the negelect paid off because he led a bunch of talented players to win the African Youth Championship in Rwanda early this month and qualified for the World Cup for the first time in seven years.
"I took my new role and worked hard for it.Now I have to take my time. There is the world championships which is the target for the Satellites," he added.
"I will take things as they come while I still eye the Stars job.I know gradually people will warm up to the idea of me as the Black Stars coach.
''Until then my confidence is still high and I am only doing my job."
