Tennis court's restoration set for December deadline

Accra, Sept. 17, GNA - A December deadline has been set for the restoration of the National Tennis Courts situated at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra.

Mr Worlanyo Agrah, Chief Executive Officer of the National Sports Council (NSC) told GNA Sports that his outfit, which is enjoying the backing of the Ministry of Youth and Sports has held discussions with construction firm, Michilleti to work on the courts. He said the restoration of the Tennis courts which were razed down for the purpose of creating a car park for the January 20 to February 10, CAN 2008 tournament will be raised to the highest international standard.

The CEO told GNA Sports that the decision to restore the trio courts up to standard was motivated by the nation's quest to host a Davis Cup Euro/Africa Zone II qualifier in January 2010. Mr Agrah said a multi-purpose Hall located opposite the plush Stadium Gym would also be completed by close of the year to aid the growth of disciplines such as volleyball, basketball and netball among others.

He said the multi-purpose Hall will be opened to the public and various associations as part of his Council's quest to unearth talents for nurturing in future stars. Mr Agrah said the Hall will come in handy as the country thirst to develop all sporting disciplines and ensure that laurels are gained at international competitions.
