Ten schools qualify for Milo Champions League

Ten primary and basic schools drawn from the ten regions in Ghana have qualified to represent their respective regions in the national finals of the 2017 Milo Champions League scheduled from the 21st to the 24th of June in Elmina.

Bepong Methodist Primary (Eastern Region), Ashaiman No. 5 Primary (Greater Accra) Redeem Methodist Primary (Volta Region) St. Monica Anglican Primary (Central Region), Dankwakrom (Western Region), Hwedien (Ashanti Region), St. Theresa (BrongAhafo), Bagabaga Primary, Finsi R/C Primary (Upper West) and Mother Theresa Primary (Upper East) completes the list of schools who will be battling for honours during the event.

Addressing participants and supporters during the closing ceremony of the Zone Four event at the Presec Legon Park which was won by 2015 National Champions Bepong Methodist Primary Schools, Mrs Funmi Osineye, Category Business Manager, Beverages at Nestle Ghana Limited expressed how interesting the journey has been in trying to get representatives from the ten regions.

“It has been an interesting journey for the brand from Zone 1 of the league which started from Tamale, to Sunyani, Takoradi and now Accra after a long period” as we have seen numerous talents unearthed from the different regions”.

She further reiterated the importance Nestle Ghana Limited attaches to grass root sports and games development in the country and why they are proud to support it. She said “The importance of sports and games in school encompasses more than just the benefit of physical activity.



Increase in self-esteem and mental alertness make school sports and games necessary for every school age child. “In this vein, Nestlé Milo is proud to support the development of young Ghanaian sporting talents and has continued to nurture the growth and development of grassroots sports in Ghana”.

Top officials of Nestle Ghana Limited, Ghana Education Service, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ghana Football Association, as well as former national team players, will join tournament icon Stephen Appiah and score of supporters at the national finals at the Ndoum Stadium in Elmina.

The Milo Champion’s league is aimed at not only teaching the basic rudiments of football skills but also teach them the key life-values learnt from participating in sports like confidence, respect and teamwork required for them to succeed in the ultimate game of life.

Nestle Ghana, through its flagship brand, Milo has been contributing to the development of sports and education in Ghana. Through its partnership with the Ghana Education Service, they have over the years helped nurture the talents of most school pupils who have gone on to play for the Black Stars and the other junior national teams.
