Tamale hosts SavanaFest 2016

This year's inter community soccer gala in the Northern sector of the country dubbed: Savana-Fest 2016 has taken place in the Northern regional capital of Tamale, with a call on Ghanaians to work hard to preserve the peace of the nation.

The call came from Mr. Collins Agyei, MTN'S Territory Sales Controller for the Northern region at the opening of the one day soccer fiesta. He said in view of the impending general elections it was imperative for Ghanaians to work hard to sustain the peace of the nation, stressing that no human institution nor activity could thrive in any chaotic environment.

Mr. Agyei described this year's event as a peace and unity initiative towards an orderly and successful general elections. "Much as we seek the socio-economic wellbeing of Ghanaians we also believe in peaceful co-existence to enhance societal transformation, hence this collaborative effort between MTN and Suncity Radio. MTN is also interested in making people have easy and fast access to the internet through its products like 4G ,he stated.

In the competition itself, 14 teams from Nyansharu, Sanyani, Kukuo, Gumani, Aboabu, Sara Junction, Moshie Zongo, Ward K, Nyohini, Savelugu, Gbali Kurani, Tishegu, Lamashegu and Baayanwaya communities in the Tamale Metropolis participated in the games.

Baayanwaya beat Nyansharu 2-0 in the grand finale to lift the trophy while Abdul Mummein of Baayanwaya, Nyohini's Ibrahim Sherif and Zakari Muaz of Nyansharu won the Best Player, Best Goalkeeper and Goalking awards respectively.

As a side attraction, Mr. de Graft Archer an ex Sekondi Eleven Wise and Minestars Soccer Star entertained the crowd with his classic ball juggling skills. The 63-year old soccer gem won the admiration of the crowd and received a long standing ovation after his performance.
