Takyi Arhin applauds CAF decision to suspend referee J.O Lamptey

Outspoken Berlin FC President, Takyi Arhin believes the three months suspension handed to J.O Lamptey is a correct call by the continent’s football governing body, CAF.

Multiple reports emerged in the media that the top Ghanaian referee has been sanctioned by CAF after Senegal lodged a protest over his performance in the 2-1 defeat at the hands of South Africa in the 2018 FIFA World Cup at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Durban.

This has triggered football enthusiasts in the country to debate on the issue for the past days, and Tekyi Arhin who is known to speak freely on issues deduced that it serves him right to be handed this sanction due to multiple questionable officiating in his career both locally and internationally.

Speaking on Happy FM, he said, “When you fail to correct a child from his bad deeds at home, he’ll one day take it to the world, and that’s exactly what we’ve done to J.O Lamptey.’’

“Referee Joseph Lamptey, Dwarfs against Medeama in a play-off to the premier league, he awarded a penalty outside the penalty box for Dwarfs to win. This is not the first time he’s been engulfed in controversy, and it baffles me whenever he’s caught in such things because he’ s a good referee, but officiating in a game of this magnitude, why do you take the laws into your own hands and award such a dubious penalty to the host.”

“This suspension is an indictment on your career and next time when you’re appointed to officiate in an international game, you’ll be assessed in a different perspective. Therefore, I think the three months he was given is a right decision from CAF for him to learn and apply the rules of the game next he gets such opportunity.”
