Table Tennis league in the offing

Accra, July 21, GNA - The Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) would soon come out with a formal league system as part of their efforts to promote the game in the country.

Mr Emmanuel Oteng-Aboagye, General Secretary of the GTTA told the GNA Sports in an interview that the association has secured sponsorship for the league and are awaiting for the unveiling of formalised modalities for the system.

According to Mr Oteng-Aboagye, Akomsombo Textile Limited (ATL) have agreed in principle to sponsor the event and are awaiting the response of the association to put the modalities for the league on course. He said the association is now faced with the general organisation of the league since there are many table tennis clubs across the country who need to be organised.

Mr Oteng-Aboagye noted that even though the clubs are scattered all over the country, some of the Regions might not be able to raise enough clubs for the league, therefore there is the need for a special look at the issue.

The General Secretary said a meeting of stakeholders would therefore be held to draw out the desired modalities for the competition. Mr Oteng-Aboagye said, "All things being equal, the league would take off by the end of August or early September".

He said the commencement of the league is the surest way to keep the players busy as well as develop more talents for the game. Mr Oteng-Aboagye said the league would in addition also help enhance the performance of the nation in table tennis.
