Table Tennis: All set for the National top 8 Finals

Head Coach of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), Anthony Owusu Ansah, is expecting a tough battle among finalist when the National Top Eight finals kick start at the DJ Hathramani Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, February 1.

Eight players from the male and female category have booked their place in the final round of the “National Top 8 Championship” organized by the Ghana Table Tennis Association. The National Top 8 which is an annual event seeks to bring the top notch Tennis players across the length and breadth of the country to compete among themselves to determine the best in each category.

The championship, which started in 2012 last year with over hundred exciting table tennis players aims to enhance the profile of the sport before the commencement of major tournaments for the year according, coach Anthony Owusu Ansah stated.

“It’s an annual tournament which aims at enhancing the performance of these tennis players. We are very glad as an association to organize such a competition because it puts our players in the right frame of mind moving into the various championship for the year.

“We have to play series of matches and that is what we have to do as an association to get to the top and compete with the best from the various players from different countries, this competition started last year and we are glad that finally all is set for the finals at the Accra Sports Stadium.” He stated.

The competition will see Samuel Akayade, Ernest Mawutor, Emmanuel Commey, Felix Lartey, Eric Addo, Jacob Sakom, Raymond Donkor, and Acquah Aikins seeking for glory in the male category, whilst Linda Annor, Celia Baah-Danso, Eva Anmankwa, Beenice Borquaye, Beatrice Gyasi, Doreen Nettey, Abigal Tetteh and Cynthia, Kwabi battling for honours in the female division.
