The Tennis Foundation Ghana (TFG), an NGO, in collaboration with the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF) has put together a ten-week junior tennis league for players aged 10 to 16-years beginning January 27 at the tennis arena of the Accra Sports Stadium.

The league, which will be launched the same day, is expected to bring together juvenile players from eight tennis clubs in Accra to do battle for honours in the boys and girls Under-12, Under-14 and Under-16 categories for both singles and doubles.

According to the organisers, the league will be used as preparatory grounds for the players to improve in their games for future national and continental competitions.

Clubs participating in the competition include the Atomic Tennis Club, Korle-Bu Tennis Club, Accra Lawn Tennis Club, Ghana Tennis Club at Adabraka, 37 Army Officers Mess Tennis Club, Tema-based Babolat Tennis Club and the host Stadium Tennis Club.

In an interview with Tennisgh.com, the president of the Foundation and a former tennis star, Roger Crawford said: “I am very excited to see the junior tennis league back. It was the nursery where a lot of players were nurtured for great things”.

He said his outfit was working with the federation to organise the League, ITF Junior World Tour Events, courses for coaches, tennnis seminars and expo in Ghana later this year.
