Swiss club optimistic of Inkoom's deal

Accra, Feb. 25, GNA - Swiss Club, FC Basel has expressed optimism in wrapping-up a deal for Kumasi Asante Kotoko's right back, Samuel Inkoom this summer.

The Swiss club failed to snap-up the 19-year old, currently with the Black Stars at the maiden edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Cote d'Ivoire before the closure of the winter transfer window few weeks ago due to some contractual related issues. Information pieced together by GNA Sports indicates that last week, French Club, Paris Saint Germain was reported to have launched a mouth watering deal, to join the Basel-based team as the frontrunners for the signature of the former Sekondi Hasaacas defender.

An official of FC Basel who pleaded anonymity however told the GNA Sports in Abidjan on Tuesday that discussions have reached an advanced stage, with the player said to have consented to the deal.

"Our agent is in Bouake and has been in close contact with the player as well as negotiating with his Club, Asante Kotoko. "He tells us the player has responded positively to the deal and will only be available for further discussions after the CHAN tournament.

He added that the 12-times Swiss champions will provide the right platform for Inkoom to blossom into a world-class player with the assurance of first team action.

The Asante Kotoko players' move to Switzerland will see him join "Joe Tex" Asamoah Frimpong and Owusu Benson as the Ghanaians in the Super League.

Ex-Asante Kotoko midfielder Alex Nyarko and Charles Amoah are the only Ghanaians to have laced their boots for the Basel-based club in recent times.
