Super Clash: Kotoko commends fans for massive support

The Public Relations officer of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Kennedy Boakye Ansah has expressed gratitude to the club’s fans for their massive support in their 2-1 victory over Accra Hearts of Oak.

Tens of thousands of Kotoko fans flooded the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday to cheer the club to victory over their rivals.

Among the numerous supporters were the club’s Executive Chairman Kwame Kyei, businessman Kennedy Agyapong who served as Vice Chairman during the successful reign of Herbert Mensah

The revered businessman who has over the years committed time and resources to the course of Kotoko was spotted beside Kwame Kyei at the VVIP stand of the stadium, urging the players on to victory.

He was seen fist-pumping and celebrating Keita’s late penalty that sealed victory for the side.

Speaking to the press at the team’s hotel in Accra, Boakye Ansah commended the supporters for their unflinching support.

“Our fans have been very loyal and we really appreciate them. Yesterday, they came in their numbers to support us and as we are really grateful. We couldn’t have beaten Hearts without their support”.

Meanwhile it has been confirmed that about GHC 726,380 was realized as gate proceeds from yesterday’s match.

The amount, which is about $130,000, becomes the highest amount any football match has earned in a following the Ghana Premier League match in Accra.

"The amount from the gate proceeds in the Hearts of Oak clash with Asante Kotoko was GHC 726,380," National Sports Authority PRO Charles Amoah told Oyerepa FM.

The previous record was held by Kotoko last year when they played Cameroonian side Coton Sport Garoua in the CAF Confederation Cup in Kumasi and earned them GHC 639,000.
