Sumaila yearns for improved second season at Sundowns

Ghana defender Rashid Sumaila is eyeing an improved season with Mamelodi Sundowns following a successful debut campaign last term.

The Brazilians will be opening their defence of their PSL title this Friday at home to Maritzburg United.

Sumaila enjoyed a good debut campaign under Pitso Mosimane which ended successfully with the side clinching the South Africa top flight.

Sundowns will therefore be playing in next season’s CAF Champions League as champions of South Africa.

And Sumaila, 21, who earned his Black Stars debut on the back of an impressive opening campaign in South Africa wants to get even better this term.

“I am preparing myself for the league and the Champions League as well,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“I am pushing very hard because I want to win a lot of man of the match awards and I want to play a lot of games also.

“So I am pushing extra to stay inform for my club.”

Sumaila was part of Ghana’s squad at the 2014 World Cup that crashed out disapprovingly from the tournament staged in Brazil after the first round.
