With the knockout stage of the Africa Cup of Nations serving as a backdrop, footballers in Takoradi hijacked the frenzy with their own football abilities when the Tigo Community Soccer fiesta stopped over.
The Sulele Park played host to 16 community teams in the Takoradi municipality. The quality of football was superb with some teams featuring players from the Glo Ghana Premier League. The home team, Sulele, won the tournament in a rather emphatic style. Spurred on by teh huge experience of the captain of New Edubiase FC, Sulele beat Top Ten 4-0 in the final match after helping himself to a hat-trick. Number Two snuck into third place by beating Colombia 3-1 on penalties.
Sulele won the trophy and booked their tickets to the national championship to be held later this year. They also took home gold medals, Tigo souvernirs and a cash price of GH¢500. First runners-up, Efiekuma received silver medals, Tigo souvenirs and a cash price of GH¢300. Second runners up, Number Two, were awarded GH¢200 and Tigo souvenirs. Theophilus Offei of Sulele took home the best player award in the tournament. Tigo Community Soccer moves to Tarkwa this week.
