Street Academy to hunt for talents in boxing and hockey playing in 2020

The Street Academy will from next year commence hunting for young talents in boxing and hockey.

The children ranging from 10 to 16 years would be hunted from James Town, Bukom and its surroundings.

“We want to catch them young so they would be more marketable on the international scenes.”

Ataa Lartey the Director of Street Academy in an interview with the GNA said these talents who would be found by the academy would also be given education in formal schools.

Throwing more light on the vision of the Street Academy in the year 2020, Lartey, was optimistic that by the year 2025 these kids would become international products.

For a start, Lartey said about 50 kids would be selected from various vicinities in Accra.

According to him, Ghana’s Azumah Nelson was discovered at a tender age hence he was able to reach higher laurels.

He said the Street Academy has positioned its self strategically with staff and coaches who would groom those talents they would be discovering.

Lartey noted that the football industry was now grounded in the selection of talents but there was the need to pay more attention to boxing and hockey playing in the country.

When asked about his thoughts on the year 2019, Lartey recounted that the year had been good adding that the academy started with “struggles” at the beginning of the year but in the end “we have been successful.’’

He appealed to individuals and organisations to assist the Academy with a bus so he could be transporting the kids at the school to various training fields in order to achieve his vision.

Lartey commended organisations and individuals who have contributed to the growth of the academy in diverse ways over the years.

Street Academy is a Sports and Cultural academy for street kids. It uses education, culture and sports to expose the hidden talents of the less unfortunate children living on the streets of Accra.
