Emmanuel Kwesi Mantey, a member of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 2023 African Games, has criticized National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama for his comments on the 2023 African Games.
Mantey advised Mahama to be more objective in his statements regarding the expenditure on the African Games, particularly the $15 million spent on feeding the athletes.
He emphasized that the former president should fully understand the issues before publicly accusing the LOC of misusing state funds for political gain ahead of the 2024 general elections.
In an interview with Asempa FM, Kwesi Mantey lamented the politicization of the African Games funding.
“It is very unfortunate that the African Games 2023 expenditure is being politicized. I urge Mahama to stop politicizing issues about the games. It is not the best,” he said, as shared by Asempa FM on X.
This statement follows Mahama's criticism of the LOC for spending $15 million on feeding athletes and questioning the allocation of the funds.
Mahama also accused the organizing committee of embezzling and misusing funds for personal interests.
The LOC has strongly denied these claims, stating that the $15 million was used to feed 13,000 people, not the 5,500 initially reported.
