Stivosina under-12 sports festival opens

Begoro, July, 25, GNA - The under-12 sports festival for basic schools in Begoro under the sponsorship of the "Stivosina Foundation" a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) based in the Netherlands opened in Begoro on Monday.

The schools will compete in soccer, netball and volleyball during the week long festival.

Opening the festival, the Fanteakwa District Chief Executive, Mr Ebenezer Ofoe Caesar called on teachers to give equal attention to all subjects in the school curriculum to ensure the development of all the potential of school children.

Mr Caesar commended the Stivosina Foundation for sponsoring the sports festival and said the District Assembly had pumped over 75 per cent of its share of the District Assembly's Common Fund into education. He urged teachers to continue to be in the classroom before fighting for better conditions of service. Mr Caesar urged the pupils to emulate Eric Addo, a Ghanaian footballer, who hails from the Fanteakwa District and is currently playing with one of the clubs in the Netherlands. The District Director of Education, Miss Mary Animwah urged teachers to tap and develop the hidden potentials in the pupils. The Chairman of the Stivosina Foundation, Mr Sven Hanbuckens who led a seven member team to the district, presented five sets of jerseys worth millions of cedis to the District to help promote sports in basic schools. 25 July 06
