President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi has insisted that the Startimes deal with the FA will help develop football in the country.

The deal with the Chinese outfit, which is worth $17,950,000 with a lifespan of 10 years, will see the construction of 10 artificial turfs and the provision of an OB Van for the Production of football matches in the country.

By the tenets of the deal, the Chinese broadcasting firm have the media rights for the Ghana Premier League, FA Cup competition, National Division one, Juvenile Football, National Women’s League and Gala Competitions.

Nyantakyi at the FA’s Ordinary Congress on Monday at Prampram, maintained that, the deal was good for Ghana football.

“We initially went to sign a five-year deal but the owner of the company proposed an extension of the deal with new terms, initially they had wanted 12 years but we quickly did a memo and sent it to the Executive Committee and finally took a decision to sign a 10-year deal,” he said.

“Many are saying it is a risk, but why don’t you look at the other side, I think is rather a big risk for them. I think is a good deal and it is going to help us on the long term”, he added.

The deal is officially expected to take effect next season.
