Gt Oly rout RTU: Accra Great Olympics' escape from the relegation zone was given a boost with a 4-1 victory over Real Tamale United (RTU) in their match played at the Accra Sports Stadium. The victory, Olympics fifth, since the start of the second phase of the league moved their points build-up to 30. Olympics, who are yet to lose a match since the second round, kicked off and gave early indications that they are in for all the three points at stake as they put early pressure on the visitors.

The first scoring chance broke to Albert Nkansah when J B Danquah centred a cross to him but hesitation on his part allowed RTU's Suleman Abukari to come out to make an intervention.

RTU replied as they went on attack but were denied a goal in the 12 minute when Sam Addo in post for Olympics made a fine save of a deflected shot from Fataw Arola.

Olympics opened the scoring in the 18th minute through Danquah who capitalised on a defensive error by the defence of RTU to drive a low shot past onrushing Abukari.

The Tamale lads took the game to Olympics but were let down by erratic shooting as they threw away the chance that came their way.

Olympics doubled the scoreline in the 28th minute through a spot kick when Fataw Barns in a good position to score was brought down in the box for Benard Lakotey to convert the kick.

The home team continued to dominate play as the good understanding between Danquah and Nkansah kept the defence men of RTU led by veteran Bobby Rahman very busy.

With the first half drawing to a close, Olympics capped their first half performance with a fine goal from Francis Martey who controlled a cross on the chest in the box before volleying it into the roof of the net in the 44th minute.

Olympics from the break appeared to let the opponent to have more of the midfield play but they did not allow RTU to break the defensive set up.

Olympics scored their fourth goal in the 57th minute through Kwabina Dodge who curled in a free kick from the edge box beyond Abukari. RTU brought on Acheapong Kwame for Abass Iddrisu but this did not change the game as the home team continued to dominate.

As the game was drawing to a close RTU scored a consolation goal in the 44th minute through Ibrahim Kluvi who drove in a long-range shot that gave Sam Addo no chance.

Hearts crash at Gyandu
A badly bruised Sekondi Hasaacas yesterday sent their teeming fans into jubilation when they beat Africa Super Champions, Hearts of Oak 1-0 at the Sekondi Gyandu Park.

The goal, which was scored in the dying minutes of the first half by Isa Mohammed, confirmed Gyandu as Hearts waterloo.

The match kicked of in swift fashion and saw the two sides in a fierce exchange before the goal, which lifted the game to the delight of the packed stadium.

Hasaacas took control even after the goal till recess.

On resumption, Hasmal played with understanding and pinned Hearts to their own half, though both sides were guilty of some poor finishing with Hearts’ Samuel Kuffour, Ishmael Addo, and Hasaacas’ Attah Yamson and Frank Turkson the most guilty in the poor shooting.

Hearts put in their final energy towards the end but their best was not enough to earn them the equaliser. Even Don Bortey’s solo effort in the dying seconds which saw him beating three defenders on the run, saw his goal-bound shot deflected to a corner-kick which was wasted.

A 70th minute goal from Eric Gawu was all King Faisal needed to collect the maximum three points from Goldfields in their Star Premier league match played at the Kumasi Sports Stadium yesterday, reports Enoch Darfah Frimpong.

After a scoreless first half, in which King Faisal wasted numerous scoring chances that came their way, Gawu atoned for their shortfall with a beautiful goal that would for a long time be the envy of many.

At Asuom, Kwaebibirem beat Ghapoha 1-0, while Arsenals beat Liberty 1-0 at Berekum.

Kotoko Trash Adansiman
At Obuasi, Kumasi Asante Kotoko consolidated their position at the second spot when they spanked home side Adansiman by three goals to nil.

Kotoko neutralised the homesters' early attempt at goal and went in for the kill in the 20th minute when Stephen Oduro scored a spectacular goal.

He collected the ball from their opponents' penalty area, feigned a pass and thundered home a curling shot which caught Adansiman's goalkeeper Samuel Antwi flat-footed.

Adansiman fought back but wasted a corner kick in the 23rd minute, allowing Kotoko to regain the driving seat once more as the Porcupine Warriors pressed forward, looking for the second.

Joe Hendricks cushioned Kotoko's lead in the 33rd minute when he headed on target from a precise corner kick by Oduro, leaving keeper Antwi stranded.

Adansiman substituted keeper Antwi with Edmund Attah in the 39th minute but that did not prevent Kotoko from scoring Godwin Ablordey sealed the game for Kotoko when he squeezed one in, very early in the second half.

After the third goal, Adansiman threw everything into the game but found the Kotoko defence too strong to beat, especially goalkeeper Louis Quanoo who dazzled with many spectacular saves.

The result leaves Adansiman neck deep in the relegation waters as bottom club, Kwaebibirem won at home against Ghapoha.
