Stade Rennes Pursue Issah Ahmed

FORMER Asante Kotoko skipper and national star, Gabriel Issah Ahmed may be on his way to the French Ligue 1 from Danish side Randers FC if all goes well. Information available to your authoritative 90 Minutes indicates that though Belgian side Club Brugges were the first to have made checks on the player from his current employers, French side Rennes are reported to have fast tracked a move for the rugged defender. Agents of Issah Ahmed are reported to have met officials of Rennes during the Christmas period for a possible move for the player. The player was in Ghana around that time and though he refused to confirm or deny the story, he expressed interest in a move to either the English Premiership or the French league.

It will be recalled that Issah nearly joined Montpellier in France last season but Randers made a last minute effort to keep him in their fold. “This is my third season with Randers and I am happy to have helped the club in qualifying and playing in the UEFA Cup until Fenerbahce eliminated us. I am a regular player in the club now and feel more at home as my family has joined me over there coupled with the fact that another Ghanaian player, David Addy is now with us. I'm still a Randers FC player and not ready to say anything but do I know what happens tomorrow? I am aware of offers but I've left everything in the hands of my manager”, Issah told 90 Minutes. Rennes currently have in their ranks Ghana's Asamoah Gyan and John Boye but despite their sterling performance currently in the league, the club seems not to have found a replacement for another Ghanaian, John Mensah who moved to Olympic Lyon at the end of last season. Co-incidentally, John Mensah and Issah Ahmed share the same nickname- The Rock. Issah, who has so far featured in two of Ghana's World Cup qualifying matches, left Ghana for Denmark last week.
