Students of Saint John Grammar School in Accra are gearing up for their turn in the Planet Sports Challenge, which comes off on Saturday, 4 March at the school’s premises.

The Planet Sports Challenge, which is sponsored by Twellium Industrial Company Ltd, is an interschool’s football and basketball competition which is aimed at unearthing the sporting talent among students of various
senior high institutions across the country.

The competition takes the form of an initial inter-house competition within the school, with the winning house facing off against the winning houses from ten other schools later in the year to determine the overall winner.

Speaking to the Marketing Manager of Twellium Industrial Company Ltd, Ali Ajami, he mentioned Accra Academy, Labone, Tema Secondary as the schools
that have already secure their participation in the finals.

“Interschool competitions are among the best ways to discover future sport talents and that is why Twellium Industrial Company Ltd has initiated this series of sports activities. A healthy mind resides in a healthy body and our mission is to ensure that our future leaders are both physically and mentally strong,” he said.

“Most of our current athletes and sports stars were discovered during their time in senior high school and I am hopeful that from this competition, we will find talents that will eventually go on to make the country proud on the international stage,” he added.

Event Manager of the Planet Sports Challenge, Gilbert Boakye Nhyira said his outfit plans to replicate the competition across the country. “We are kicking this off with ten schools in the Greater Accra Region but the idea is to hold similar events across the country and eventually hold a grand finale sometime in the future,” he said.
