Sports journalists vote on Bortey vs Charles Taylor debate

Citi FM sports broadcaster Fentuo Tahiru sparked a debate on Twitter on who is supreme between Charles Taylor and Bernard Don Bortey.

The topic generated huge interest and debate among followers of the Ghanaian football from the late 90s and to the mid-2000s.

Both Taylor and Bortey were adored by Hearts of Oak and Kotoko fans and they continue to divide opinions even today – years after their lights dimmed.

Bortey started his international career at the youth level dazzling at the U17 World Cup in 1999 in New Zealand, going ahead to score 9 senior goals in 27 appearances while Taylor played at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games for Ghana and has 16 appearances and two goals to his name.

The 50 sports journalists who were drawn from radio, television, newspaper and online casted their votes on Saturday and Sunday and massively voted for Charles Taylor.

Taylor polled 31 votes representing 62% while Bortey garnered 19 votes which represented 38%.

Top journalists including Dan Kwaku Yeboah, Patrick Akoto, Eugene Adu Poku, Collins Atta Poku, Andy Kerm, UK-based Rahman Osman, Fentuo Tahiru, Sheikh Toufiq Seinu, Muftawu Nabila, Edmund Okai Gyimah, Seidu Adamu, Atta Twum, Alhaji Yahaya, Joe Debrah, Stevenson Manu among others all casted their votes.
