Sports budget from Ghc39 million to Ghc22 million

The 2016 sports budget has seen a GHC17 million reduction after it was read in parliament by the Finance Minister today.

The budget which clearly states the drastic reduction of the Black Stars’ winning bonus per game will be used to develop some keys areas of sports as well as fund the participation of the various national teams in significant tournaments.

The approved budget of GHC22 million would cover the renovation and construction of some selected national sports facilities like the Accra Sports Stadium, National Sports College in Winneba, Cape Coast and Ho Stadia respectively.

The Minister of Finance affirmed that the draft National Sports Bill has been completed and submitted to cabinet and the Attorney-General’s department, for approval and mandated amendment.

The Ministry will finalize the National Sports bill and develop the National Sports Policy in 2016.
