Sports Ministry unhappy with GFA

The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS), has expressed its displeasure at the actions of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over international friendly games.

In a press release signed by the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Vincent Oppong-Asamoah, it stated the Ministry’s reservations over the way the GFA conducted the affairs of the Black Stars and the other National teams.

According to the statement, the GFA did not follow the due processes by involving the sports ministry in the two friendly games (Ghana vs. Canada and Ghana vs. Japan) that involved Ghana.

“The Ministry would like to re-iterate, that, all dealings of the GFA in relation to the Black Stars and for that matter all the National teams should be routed through the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the statutory body responsible for sports development and promotion in the country.”

The release further stated that “it is, therefore mandatory that the GFA involves the Ministry in all contracts, agreements and memoranda that you might sign in relation to the Black Stars and all the National teams.”

The Sports Ministry further urged the GFA to involve the Ministry in all communications to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in relation to activities of the Black Stars and other National teams in future.

The Sports Ministry is hoping the GFA put to rest the previous ways of handling the National teams and adhere to their release saying “we, hope this anomaly will not repeat itself the third time.”
