Sports Ministry eulogises the late Opoku Afriyie and Kwasi Owusu

The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) has expressed condolence to the football fraternity after two Ghana Legends Opoku Afriyie and Kwasi Owusu passed away.

Afriyie, 65, passed away Sunday, 29th March Sunday morning while his fellow Owusu, 72, passed away in the early hours of Monday.

A statement signed by Mr Isaac Asiamah, Minister of Youth of Sports, wished the two iconic footballers eternal rest in the bosom of the Almighty and lauded them for their exploits for the country.

"The late football icon contributed immensely in the development of football as player, coach and administrator. He dedicated his whole life to the sports and exhibited a great sense of discipline, valour and sportsmanship both on and off the field of play.

He paid his dues to the nation in the field of football in Ghana. The nation and football fraternity have lost a precious football gem.

His memories will forever remain in our hearts. Our prayers and feelings are with the family in this difficult moments,'' the Sports Minister said about Afiyie.

The late Afriyie featured for the two most glamorous clubs in Ghana, Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko as well as the Black Stars of Ghana.

Owusu, on the other hand, Kwasi Owusu is a former Ghana Captain and was the country's leading international goal scorer with 36 goals until Asamoah Gyan overtook the milestone, now with 51 goals.
