Youth and Sports Minister, Hon. Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has hinted at a possible appeal to the International Boxing Federation(IBF) through Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) for a rematch between Richard Commey and Easter Jnr. following the former’s Richard Commey inability to annex the vacant title via a split decision in favour of the latter at the Santander Arena in Pennsylvania (USA) on Friday.

The judges scored the fight 115-112, 114-113 for Easter and 114-113 for Commey in a match televised by Premier Boxing Champions on Spike.

Commey arrived in Accra yesterday, in the company of his trainer, Carl Lokko and manager, Michael Amoo-Bediako and, were welcomed by the Sports Minister, who confirmed that Government will back GBA to lodge a protest to IBF to challenge them for unfair results against Richard Commey.

He said: “If it demands that government puts in an official word, we will formally protest as a country, in consultation with our technical team, and request for an immediate rematch.

“We would entreat the GBA to establish contact with the respective autorities involved and we shall be in the background supporting them.”
