Sports Minister inspects site for sports complex for Ho

Mr Clement Kofi Humado, Minister of Youth and Sports was accompanied by Mr Worlanyo Agra, Director General of the National Sports Authority to inspect the proposed site for the establishment of a sports complex in Ho, the Volta Regional capital.

The 50- acre plot land is located on the Ho-Aflao Road.

The inspection of the project site was to prepare the ground for commencement of work on the facility to be used as a venue for Sports Medicine studies by the University of Health and Allied Science (UHAS).

Mr Humado said government would begin minor works at the site as soon as acquisition of the land was completed.

He said funding was being sought from development partners for the main multi-purpose facility.

Mr Humado announced that rehabilitation works would soon begin on all Regional stadia in the country and appealed for support and collaboration with the Ministry to improve sports infrastructure in the country.

Mr Agra called for a technical report and estimates for rehabilitation work to begin on the playing field at the Ho Sports Stadium as well as for the completion of the fence wall among others.

Mr Isaac Kodobissah, Ho Municipal Chief Executive said the facility was so dear to the people in the Region and therefore appealed to the Sports Authority to fast-track work on the project.

He said the Ho Sports Stadium used to be the third biggest revenue generator for the Sports Authority during the days of Voradep Football Club with soccer fans coming all the way from neighbouring Republic of Togo and was hopeful that when the facility was rehabilitated it would bring development and further revenue to the area.

Meanwhile a local Planning Committee has been set up to do background works on the acquisition of the land.
