Sports Men & Women To Punish Mills And NDC

Ripples From Maputo!!!

Citing Agra For Sabotage of Gov’t

From Our Maputo Correspondence

Credible reports reaching The Informer from Maputo, Mozambique’s venue for the on-going 10th All Africa Games, has it that, the contingent from Ghana are up in arms against the National Sport Council (NSC) and its Chief Executive, Mr. Worlanyo Agra, and vows not to vote for President John Evans Atta Mills and his National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, come December next year. According to our source, the decision by men and women who are currently in Maputo to defend the flag of Ghana was arrived at after careful assessment of their ordeal, prior to departure to the events’ venue; and under bizarre condition in which they currently find themselves.

Some of the resentful gallant sports men and women who spoke to this paper on telephone but pleaded anonymity; have said, they regret having to offer themselves to defend the flag of Ghana at the on-going All African Games, only to be subjected to the ill-treatment they suffered and continue to suffer in Maputo; in the hands of their officials, who do not care about them right from day one of arrival at the events ground.

“We feel very sorry for ourselves, and totally shocked about the way and manner Mr. Worlanyo Agra and his men, treated us, when they were supposed to know better and do things properly”, they pointed out.

“In fact, we will vote against the NDC for not treating us well”, the hinted “We were of the view that our stay in Maputo will be of a relief and completely heal our wounds as regards the kind of treatments we suffered in Ghana, especially when we were invited to camp, but what we have gone through so far, gives us clear indication that Mr. Worlanyo Agra and his team were purely up to mischief, and by extension to cause disaffection to the ruling government and President Mills, who since taking office strive to do everything possible to revive the sports sector”, they added. “Mr. Worlanyo Agra and the National Sports Council, have virtually failed the nation resulting from their poor organization, and therefore, must be probed and made to face the full rigors of the law, if found culpable of embezzling the funds given them”; one of the disappointed athletes stressed. “We have been left to our destiny since our leaders in Maputo became handicapped and do not know their left from right, as a result of poor organizational style of Mr. Worlanyo Agra and his group”, another athlete hinted, and says, if personnel at the National Sports Council, particularly, Mr. Agra, are not called to order, they will continue to disgrace Ghana on the international scenes like they have just done, and continue to sabotage government’s efforts to bring sports, once again, to the limelight.

“Although we know for a fact that, adequate funds have been released to the National Sports Council to properly organize the event, we can’t boast of a single t-shirt, designed in national colours for use at Maputo, compared to other participating countries; and this smacks of a certain level of corruption”, one of the foreign based athletes, who sounded very livid, told the Informer, as she vows never to response to any call from the sports authorities to participate in any tournament as a Ghanaian.

However, this paper’s independent investigations also revealed that the Ghanaian contingent in Maputo since arrival, have been struggling for place to lay their heads, as they have been packed in a very small room to the extent that, some of them have to use the washrooms as their final resort .

It also came up that, following the poor organization on the part of Mr. Agra and his team, the contingent from Ghana has to travel to Maputo on a piece meal basis, and are equally expected to come home the same way.

Investigations have it that, those who have finished their events have to immediately pack and leave, since they cannot guarantee a successful flight arrangement like it happened on their way to Maputo; and this, we are told did not go well with the contingent.

According to the paper’s “leaks”, only a small amount of allowance, budgeted to pay these gallant sports men and women, have been given them; and this we learnt have sparked of serious tension at the camp of Ghanaian.

Whiles participants from other nations are decently dressed in track-suit, our men were seen in jeans and some multicolored attires.

From all the above-stated allegations, one would wonder why Mr. Worlanyo Agra should say during his interview with Asempa FM’s sports presenter, Benedict Dankwa that, the nation’s contingent should put up their best when he failed to adequately equip them with all the needed facilities.

In fact, it is from the aforementioned revelations that people think Mr. Worlanyo Agra was purely out to sabotage the NDC government to the advantage of his paymasters, and, therefore, must be probed on arrival.
