Sports Council to create sponsorship pool

Accra, Jan 23, GNA - The National Sports Council (NSC) is to create a sponsorship pool to enable all its associations get adequate financial support for their programmes and activities. The initiative is to curtail disparities in the development of the various sporting disciplines under the Council.

Under the new scheme, the NSC with the support of members of the various associations will raise funds from sponsorship to be accessed by all associations.

Prince Ernest Oduro-Mensah, Chief Executive Officer of NSC told the The Council, according to the Chief Executive intends meeting all the Chairmen and General Secretaries of the Associations to fashion out modalities for securing sponsorship as well as it disbursement. The Chief Executive said the initiative forms part of the general strategic plan which is currently under preparation.

Prince Oduro-Mensah said the strategic plan will also outline the development and promotion of sports in the country. According to the Chief Executive, all Associations under the NSC have been tasked to provide their respective plans to be incorporated into the main one.

The NSC intends to complete the strategic plan by the close of the first quarter.

Prince Oduro-Mensah added that the NSC has also taken steps to strengthen its work force by putting in a request for 20 National Service personal. He said the personal will be attached to the various Associations to assist in the running of the secretariat. The Chief Executive said the service personnel are expected to ease the burden on the general secretaries who work for two or more Associations. Prince Oduro-Mensah revealed that the NSC is in discussion with the Head of Civil Service to grant permission for the Council to recruit more workers to beef up its staff base. 23 Jan. 07
